Cars You Wish Another Company Had Made

Yes yes, The Heartbreak Kid. It could've been so good, but then they fitted a van engine and more plastic than Hasbro.

The idea was pure genius. It could've been small, light, peppy, and agile. It could've been a modern-day restomod for the masses. It could've been a screaming monster waiting to oversteer you into a Wendy's.

But it wasn't.

There are many cars I see that I just wish somebody else had made; somebody who knew what they were doing.

The Fiero. The Mid-Engine Economy Car. The missed opportunity. Luckily, somebody else did remake this car and thus we have the AW11 Toyota MR2..

Last but not least..

Now, before you throw your beer cans and skinned 'coons at me for damning America's sports car, hear me out. I like the Corvette, but there are a couple problems another company could solve. Firstly, the interior. The new one's great, but the old Vette's interior was just a rummage through the parts bin containing Tahoe trim pieces. The other problem with the Corvette is the owner. 9 times out of 10, the Corvette driver is over 60. Nuff said.

Chevy was on to something great. It's a red-blooded American thumbing its nose at 911s. It's powerful, comfortable, has tons of cargo space, and has USABLE CUPHOLDERS. Big plus for me there.

Feel free to share your opinions and options.

The MR2 isn't really a remake of the Fiero, considering they came out at the exact same time, and the later (87-88) V6 Fiero GTs are (in my opinion) very superior compared to the AW11 Mr2 at the time.

The question always remains: "Who else would have made it?" Consider the Corvette. If GM didn't make it, it would have been made by some other company just as cheaply, or far more expensive with a slightly better interior.

Same goes for the Prowler. Considering Chevy's SSR, the Plymouth Prowler, and the Ford Thunderbird were all poor-performing sales failures, I'd say outsourcing that car to another company wouldn't have helped it at all.

The MR2 > Fiero argument would work, if the MR2 came out as a response to the Fiero, and not at the same time.

I didn't really bother with chronology in the MR2 vs. Fiero argument, but Toyota took the idea and made it better. Granted, Pontiac refined the Fiero into the Fiero GT, which is still an underrated car.

I understand your "who would've made it argument" but I'm trying to look at it as if another company had made it better, not worse.

As far as the Corvette, what if Audi had built it's competitor? Screaming V8 2-seater with a hatch, and a beautiful Audi interior. I imagine Quattro would've been the byproduct, which sounds weird an a Vette, but it's a thought.

What if the Thunderbird were made by Volvo or Saab. A big cruiser with Swedish-level comfortable seats.

It's all hypothetical, I'm just curious needed redoing or tweaking from a different company.

At ALMS races the Corvette corral is filled with Corvettes fitted with car bras. More than half have car bras. Even more have shitty "chrome" pieces fitted to various parts of the car.

I wish the SRT Viper was made by TVR. It would have 1100 horsepower, no amenities whatsoever, it would be made out of fiberglass, the door handles would fall off every six miles, and it would be even more insane.

I like Noble's simplistic approach. I wish they made more cars at different price points. Something like a crazy Corvette/Viper killer.

You wouldn't be seeing any $50K 'vette if another company made it. Audi, they do make a v8 2 seater sport car with a better interior, it is the R8, and 50K cash will get you laughed out of the used car lot. Sorry, the BEST company to make the 'Vette is GM.

Perhaps if I bigger company that had a bit more at it's disposal made it.

Ford keeps teasing us with things like the Formula EcoBoost and a slew of crazy light sports cars. They just need a gearhead account that will commit enough fraud for Ford to mass produce it.

That sounds like all the new Camaros I see at car shows.

People can give Honda and Hyundai all the shit they want to about being ricers, but the new Camaro IS the new ricer. I've never seen a new Camaro at a show that didn't have some form of neon, Lambo doors, Billet accessory, extra painted pieces, or TV screen.
